VHX is an invaluable tool for independent film makers, allowing them to distribute their films like never before. It truly is "Internet Video Distribution for Everyone".

I first heard about VHX while checking out the Drafthouse Films website and noticed many of their films were being distributed via VHX. After a bit of research it very quickly became apparent that this was the distribution solution I had been searching for.

With a traditional distribution deal I calculated my distributor selling approximately 100,000 units would equal about the same amount of profit if I sold only 1500 units myself! These numbers were staggering to say the least. I had signed a very fair deal and was treated well in our agreement, but moving forward there was no way this model could sustain my company or future film releases. That is when I made the switch to VHX.
  • VHX is free to use. You can set your own prices and they only take a 10% + 50 cents commission per sale.
  • Customers can instantly stream, download or rent our films including bonus content and special features.
  • In addition to easily embeddable video players, our movies can be also watched with the VHX App available from Apple, on their Roku or any mobile device.
  • We have the option to send watermarked, time-limited screener copies to press and other contacts.
  • All traffic, sales and customer activity is saved to the user dashboard. This allows us to not only keep in touch with our fans but offer coupon special deals, free downloads and more.
Located in Brooklyn NY, VHX offers open office group visits once a month. They have sort of living room set up where all the film makers could ask questions, discuss their products and a giant screen for video demonstrations. And yes, there were even free cookies.

Simply put there is just no other site like it. Whether you are using VHX as your primary form of distribution or as an added boost to your current marketing plan, this is the distribution platform Darkstar Entertainment and all independent film makers have been waiting for.

John Carpenter: Master of Fear BAMcinématek Film Series  Feb. 5 -22 features 18 Classic Carpenter Films

This exciting BAMcinématek Film Series in NYC showcases one of the all time great directors (and my personal favorite) John Carpenter. His fiercely independent approach to films is uncanny - often writing, directing, scoring and editing his own movies.
John Carpenter’s work has been incredibly influential on me. Most notably in Kids Go To The Woods… Kids Get Dead and Kids Get Dead 2: The Kids Get Deader functioning in part as a tribute and homage to Carpenter’s Halloween series.
Our VHS copies of his masterpiece They Live were continually worn out growing up. Big Trouble in Little China, Escape From NY, The Thing, In The Mouth of Madness - the list just goes on and on…
Carpenter’s soundtracks are also legendary. On February 3rd his latest album Lost Themes (available on Sacred Bones Records) will be released, featuring all new musical scores.

From the Sacred Bones website:
John Carpenter has been responsible for much of the horror genre’s most striking soundtrack work in the fifteen movies he’s both directed and scored. The themes can instantly flood his fans’ musical memory with imagery of a menacing shape stalking a babysitter, a relentless wall of ghost-filled fog, lightning-fisted kung fu fighters, or a mirror holding the gateway to hell. The all-new music on Lost Themes asks Carpenter’s acolytes to visualize their own nightmares.
“They’re little moments of score from movies made in our imaginations,” Carpenter says.“Now I hope it inspires people to create films that could be scored with this music.”
February is without a doubt John Carpenter Month. Hope to see you at some of the screenings!

The Shoot - Directed by John Adams & Toby Poser
"When two rockers rob a fashion shoot in the desert, everyone gets more than they bargained for."

John Adams and Toby Poser recently completed their 3rd feature film and I was fortunate enough to be an assistant director and camera operator while we shot some complex scenes in the Joshua Tree National Park. It was an amazing 2 weeks! Before heading to the desert the first few days were spent shooting interiors for the “photography studio” scenes.
After that it was out to the desert where John had meticulously planned out some complex action sequences. I had originally thought the desert would be like a Loony-Tunes episode but was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful landscapes, exotic plant life and stunning sunsets. The “Joshua trees” looked like something out of a Dr. Sues book. We would climb giant rock installations where from the top all you could see was desert in all directions.

Generally shooting sun up to sun down - we’d then head back to our hotel to clean up, log footage and have large family style dinners with all the cast and crew. Nothing but great vibes!
Being an honorary “Adams Family Member” running around the desert and making some kick ass art was a blast. John and Toby’s first two films (Rumblestrips and Knuckle Jack) tore up the festival circuit and The Shoot is off to great start as well, having won the prestigious Gold Award at the California Film Awards.
For more info on The Shoot and to find out when it is screening at a festival near you be sure follow them on Facebook.
